Itinerary of the New Year’s Eve Celebration in Merzouga Desert

Day 1: 29/December: Marrakesh – Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazat – Rose Valley – Dades Gorges:

Our team will meet you at the airport or at your Riad. The road trip starts by driving towards Kasbah Aitbenhadou via the highest pass in Africa Tizi N’ Tichka (Altitude 2260 m ) while enjoying the superb views of the giant High Atlas Mountains with the panoramic Berber villages. We continue the journey to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Aït Benhaddou. Situated on a hill along the Ouarzazate River, This beautiful example of southern Moroccan architecture has been used as a backdrop for over 20 famous movies including Lawrence of Arabia, Game of Thrones, The Mummy, and Gladiator. We pass by Ouarzazat one major Berber city in southern Morocco known as the Hollywood of Africa and by the rose valley and overnight in a hotel in the Dades Gorges.

Day 2: 30/December: Dades Gorges – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Rissani – Merzouga:

After breakfast in your hotel, we leave the Dades Gorges and head to Todra Gorges via Tinghir and the lush valley of Todra where you will have a little hike along the narrow and high cliffs of Todra. In the afternoon we arrive at Merzouga desert where you get ready and accompanied by a camel guide to go for an authentic camel trek experience of around 90 minutes where you can catch the sunset in the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes and spend a memorable night with millions of shiny stars, enjoy a Berber dinner, drum party and sleep in a traditional nomadic tent or a luxury tent.

Day 3: 31/December: New Year’s Eve Night in Merzouga Desert:

That day is the waited big day of the last night of the year and the night of New Year’s Eve. We will attend the breathtaking sunrise before having our breakfast, then we prepare to celebrate the New Year in the Sahara desert in Merzouga. We will have a journey to the small Berber Gnawa village called Khamlia where we will meet Blak locals from Mali and Soudan. Lunch here. Then, we will ride camels on an adventure crossing the erg Chebbi sand dunes, this is a great opportunity to take awesome pictures of the sunset.

When we arrive at the luxury camp we will leave the camels and we will Celebrate New Year’s Eve in the Desert of Merzouga. We will purchase a ticket to enter the camp and attend the Berber Gnawa music show and the Berber folklore (Ahidous). They will serve us dinner and then the party begins. We will dance and enjoy the vibe as it’s the last day of your life not of the year! At 12:50 midnight, the audience will start counting to the New Year and be ready to shoot the fireworks. The party will be continued until sunrise. You will admire the charming starry sky and the Gnawa music with the Berber traditions; New Year’s Eve in the Merzouga desert is really an extraordinary one. Finally, we continue to Marrakech passing the Tizi ‘n’ Tichka mountain pass, and the New Year tour finishes in Marrakech. Hence the end of your New Year’s Eve vacation in Morocco.
