Detailed Itinerary of the 6-day Morocco desert tour from Fes
Day 1: Fez sightseeing
Pick up at your Riad or meet you at the airport. Depending on your arrival time we will have a guided tour of Fez Medina and the must-sees.
Our 6 days Morocco desert tour will begin by enjoying a guided city tour to Explore dramatically the first imperial city of Morocco, Fes; this UNESCO World Heritage Site was founded in the 9th century and is home to the world’s oldest university. The first stop of the morning is a visit to the entrance of the largest royal palace in Morocco We will also visit the medieval Medina with its Medersas (religious Islamic universities) Attarine and Bou Anania, the Nejjarine fountain, the Moulay Idriss mausoleum, the Karaouine Mosque University.
Enjoy a Moroccan lunch at a traditional restaurant in Medina. Afterward, continue to explore the medina and Its narrow alleys house hundreds of merchants and craftsmen selling a range of products such as dates, fish, spices, copper urns, and musical instruments. A night with breakfast at the Riad / Hotel.
Day 2: Fes – Ifrane – Cedar Forest – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert
After having our breakfast, we will start our tour from Fes to Marrakech and drive southward to cross the Middle Atlas Mountains to reach Ifrane, called ” Little Switzerland Moroccan ” for its resemblance to the country. One of the animals that once lived here was the lion of the Atlas, which has now become the symbol of the city and has been dedicated to a stone statue in the middle of it. Take the opportunity to stop and ask ourselves some photos. Then cross the famous cedar forests and admire the Great Cedar Gouraud, the largest in the region of ancient cedar, and also feed the hundreds of Gibraltar monkeys that inhabit the area.
Lunch at MIDELT or Rich; from here the land becomes barren and filled with spectacular geological formations and deep green valleys, like the Ziz Valley. We begin to see the typical adobe architecture, palm trees, and some distant Kasbahs … we are at the gates of the desert. After an hour after we arrived at Erfoud’s impressive dunes of Merzouga and after tea Hospitality, leave our bags in the room and climb to the first dunes that are outside the hotel and take the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful sunset. Dinner and overnight at a hotel located a few meters from the dunes of Erg Chebbi.
Day 3: Discovering Merzouga
We’re in the desert and today will be a day of Total Desert. After a hearty and rich breakfast, will surround the Erg Chebbi sand expanse of desert where the Great Dune of Morocco, over 250 meters, and connect on track with part of the route taken by the former Paris-Dakar and the mountains bordering Algeria background. Stop at the oasis of Tissardmin where we can find Fossile’s career that is still in this region and continue towards a nomadic settlement where we will learn some of the secrets of her life and customs. Reach the village of Khamlia originally from Mali, where we will relax with a cup of tea while enjoying a short concert of the spiritual music of Gnawa. Return to the hotel to go on a camel caravan to enter the heart of the dunes and enjoy an unforgettable sunset. Arrive with the camels to camp where we stay in Haim ” Stores made with camel’s hair ” as used by desert nomads. Dinner and overnight at Haimas in the heart of the desert under a spectacular canopy of stars.
Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani Market – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley
” Date with the Dawn ” As they are in the desert, it is recommended to wake up to walk to the highest dune that is around the camp to enjoy the sunrise and the relaxing scenery that nature offers us, we will return on camels to the village of Merzouga. After a delicious breakfast, we have to say goodbye to the desert and leave for Rissani, visit its market (if we’re lucky and is one of the market days: Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday) we will continue our journey to Erfoud where there is also a possibility to visit the fossilized marble factory before continuing to the palm of Touroug and Tinjdad.
1 hour later reach one of the strongest points of the High Atlas: The Todra Gorges. The bed of the river has formed a Todra gorge walls of enormous proportions and great beauty; It is a paradise for climbers and a unique place. Lunch at the site and a half-hour hike would recommend seeing and enjoying the Gorges in detail. In the afternoon continue to the Dades Valley, known as the Valley of figs, to Boumalne Dades stop at the ‘legs mono’ ‘Dinner and night in the Gorges du Dades.
Day 5: Dades Valley – Valley of Rose – Boutaghrghar- Palm Skoura – Ouarzazate
After breakfast, we enjoy one of the best views of the Dades Valley. We will do so from one of the most strategic locations that offer us the mountains. From there we can see the amount of kasbah there and picturesque each is, then output to a dotted road with several Kasbah of great interest to reach the Kasbah of Ait Youl where we will make a detour and we will look for clues in deeper Central High Atlas, discovering landscapes. Visit a nomadic family still living in caves in the Vallé of Boutagrar where time seems to have stopped. We’ll see mountains, canyons, valleys, and caves where nomads still live in the mountains. Arrival at Vallé of Roses to reunite Kelâa M’gouna.Lunch in the village and the afternoon pass through the palm of Skoura, then you reach Ouarzazate, have Dinner, and overnight at Hotel. 5 Days from Fes to Marrakech
Day 6: Ouarzazate – Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
The morning is dedicated to the visit of Ouarzazate: Kasbah of Taourirt, Film studios. After the departure Fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou. Visit its famous Kasbah (Declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 1986).In this spectacular setting, movies have been shot as reputable as Gladiator, Obelix, Sahara with Penelope Cruz, and Jewel of the Nile. 5 Days from Fes to Marrakech
Lunch in the village and the afternoon departure to Marrakech. Crossing the mountain pass of Tizi Ntichka with photo stops. Here we will leave the lunar landscape that will give way to the prevailing green, ocher colors … etc. Arrive in Marrakech at about 6 pm or so, transfer to the hotel, and end our services.
